Richard is a 1971 graduate of the University of South Florida with a BA degree in Business (quantitative management, minor in economics). He pursued graduate studies towards an MBA at the same university from 1973-1975. In 1980, he received a Masters in Church Music from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Richard has earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner designation and abides by its ongoing credentialing requirements.
Richard began his career working in banking in 1971 where he first developed a desire to help people in their financial lives. In 1978 he left the business community to enter full-time ministry in the role of Minister of Music. Since his return to the business community, he has served part-time in music ministry. He also serves on the board of directors of The Americas Thrift Store Foundation and as Treasurer for his homeowners association.
In 1999, Richard formed The Retirement Center, now renamed Hitchcock Maddox Financial Partners, an independent retirement financial planning practice.
Richard and his wife, Patti, have been married 43 years and have two daughters, Jennifer and Laura and four grandchildren. Richard is an accomplished pianist and church organist. In addition to music, Richard enjoys boating and travel.
